Who's Sippin' from the HaterAide?

A great opportunity has opened up for me this weekend as I will be attending my first Red River Shootout between The University of Texas and Oklahoma. This has been on my list of things to do for some time. As part of the build up to the game, I have paid more attention to the lead up to the game than I normally would. I assure you that you can find just about whatever information about the game you want if you look. In fact, it seems that everyone with a computer as an opinion on the game. They also seem to have strong opinions on the other team, their fans, and the state they belong to!

I certainly will be rooting for the Longhorns. I hope they win. However, other than that, I wish no real harm to anyone involved with the Oklahoma program, including their fans. I would think a good "whoopin" on the field would be plenty of suffering to dole out to our neighbors to the north. Apparently, that's not the sentiment of several of my Texas brothers. I've heard the Sooners referred to by many names over the last week, most of which I choose not to repeat. If this sentiment is used in good natured ribbing, and helps build up excitement for the game, I have no problem with that. However, if we truly feel that Oklahoman's are the lowest form of bottom feeders, we should really consider seceeding from the United States and building a wall along the border between us.

I'm all for rivalry among our universities and our fans. I'm all agin crossing the line to "hating" over a sporting competition. I feel sure that if things don't go the way of UT this weekend, it's not going to change my life for the better or worse. However, for those that are "sippin' from the HaterAide," they'll have a lot at stake. In fact, they can't really win, even if The University of Texas wins. I suppose somewhere this all falls under the old axiom that "we're all going to be about as happy as we want to be." I don't have the time and energy to be "hating" on Oklahomans. Shoot, I have to save all those resources for our friends in the Middle East!

Take the time and energy today to like somebody. It'll do a body good.
